Botanical Name
| Dipterocarpus kerrii King |
Genus | Dipterocarpus |
Family | Dipterocarpaceae |
Distribution | This is a species of the Andaman Islands, Burma, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, eastern Sumatra, and the Philippines. In the peninsula it is locally common on flat land or hills up to 300 m in Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. It is common near the coasts but occurs well inland in Kedah and at Tasik Bera in Pahang. It is probably the most common species of Dipterocarpus in Kedah, and in Perlis some very rich stands exist. There are a few trees on Jugra Hill near Klang (Selangor), and it occurs in Johor and on Singapore Island. In spite of its wide distribution and tendency to gregariousness, this species is absent from large tracts of jungle, particularly on the east of the peninsula. It is now critically endangered owing to forest conversion.
