Botanical Name
| Dipterocarpus oblongifolius Bl. |
Genus | Dipterocarpus |
Family | Dipterocarpaceae |
Distribution | This is a tree of the Malay Peninsula and Borneo that occurs almost exclusively along the banks of rivers beyond the tidal reaches. In the peninsula it inhabits nearly all the larger east coast rivers, from Thailand southwards. In such localities it is abundant, but usually strictly confined to the riparian fringe. It is also characteristic of some of the lopak forest of Pahang. It is rare on the west side of the peninsula, but it occurs along some streams in Bubu Forest Reserve, northern Perak. It is well represented in Taman Negara, but vulnerable elsewhere owing to habitat fragmentation.

Bole Characteristics | Large trees, similar in bark characters to most other species of Dipterocarpus, but bole gnarled and twisted, usually leaning over rivers and frequently covered with moss and other epiphytes.
|
Herbarium Characteristics | Oblong-lanceolate, about 20 cm long, about 15 – 20-nerved, glabrous; petiole 1.7 – 3 cm long, drying black.
